Navratri Day 5 - Story of Skandamata | Birth of Kartikeya

Image
Today, on the fifth day of Navaratri, maa Durga is worshipped in the form of Goddess Skandamata. And this day is dedicated to her. Skandamata consists of 2 words, Skanda, which is another name for Lord Kartikeya and Mata which means mother. Thus the word Skandamata means the mother of Skanda or Kartikeya. As is clear from the name, she is another form of Ma Parvati. In this form, goddess Skandamata has 4 arms. She is portrayed holding kartikeya in her left hand and a lotus in her right hand. One of her left arms is positioned to grant boons or to bless her devotees with grace. She is also known to have 3 eyes and a bright complexion. She rides a lion and is seated on a lotus.

Story of Brahmacharini     Devi Brahmacharini is the goddess who is worshiped on the 2 nd day of Navratri. In this avatar, Maa Durga follows ‘tapa’ or penance.   The name Brahmacharini is derived from 2 words; Brahma means Tapa or Penance and ‘Charini’ means an ardent female follower.   Bhramacharini is represented as holding a rosary in her right hand and a kamandala in her left hand.       Story of Brahmacharini   In yesterday’s video, I had told the reason for the goddess Sathi to jump into the sacrificial fire of the yajna, performed by her father.  After immolating herself, she was reborn as the daughter of the king of mountains. She was called as Parvati.   Years later, sage Narada visited her. He revealed to her about her true self and told her the cause of her rebirth. He also said that she could be able to marry Lord shiva even in this birth, only if she followed a great tapas.   Determined, Parvati embarked upon an extremely difficult regime of penance and devotion.

A DREAM WITH A REALITY - Imaginary Talking Trees

Image
A DREAM WITH A REALITY / WAS IT A WARNING DRAEM? / TREES ENDANGERED!? It was the eve of Christmas and I had a great day. I reached my comfy bed and dived into it. I closed my eyes thinking about my new green tasty plant friends I had planted the previous day. I wish there was some way in which they could speak to me. I wanted to listen to their voices which I believed would be as sweet as their fruits.   I wanted to listen to their daily problems and what they had as an impression on me. In fact, I always imagined what would happen if trees were capable of talking and walking just like us, humans. Well, I was sure there couldn’t be any big problem, just a bit more noise pollution, and traffic.   The next morning, I woke up with sleepy eyes, a smirk smile with messed up hair. As usual, I went near my window and peered into my garden, but what I saw was something unbelievable!    My garden which was supposed to be filled with green trees and plants had turned into a lar

Mandargiri Hill, A day trip from Bangalore to Mandaragiri betta, Jain Temple

Image
Hurry up or you’ve be sun food there!-  this was the status of my family before starting the trip. Definitely, it was one of the weirdest of weather I had ever seen.  It was ice cold in early mornings, scorching hot in the mornings, humid in the afternoon and flooding rain in evening. So, it was obvious such a statement to come. It was already 8 by the time we thought the process of having a trek. So, by the time everything was ready, it was 9. We left at 9:10AM correctly. As always, the journey was something that I can’t describe! But on the other side the thing that was not always was that this time we were visiting a very rarely heard place called Mandaragiri hills. they say that tourism is very less here.  I was super excited for this trip! The journey takes an hour and thirty minutes to reach from Bangalore to Tumkur When we had reached the area, there was a huge entrance that had written on it-“Mandaragiri hills”. We have to drive 1 km from here to re
